After a week in Luang Prabang it's time to move on. Not least because our room has become a get together place for cockroaches and giant ants. Ben has been a hero taking them on!
Today we took a slow boat up the Mekong river to visit the Buddha cave. We stopped on the way at 'Whisky village' where they make whisky believe it or not from fermented sticky rice. You could try a shot but it was about 9.30am so I passed.
The Buddha cave is actually 2 caves, full of Buddha statues that are too old to be used in temples anymore. There were thousands of statues of all shapes and sizes. One cave was quite shallow, but the upper cave you needed a torch to be able to look around. It was really big, with an old altar and lots of bats. It made it very eerie but it was an enjoyable trip.
Tomorrow we head to Nong Khiaw, unfortunately not by slow boat as there weren't enough people but at least we get there in half the time. It's supposed to be very pretty by the river and just a place to relax or maybe hire a bike so we probably won't stay there for too long. A change of scenery will be nice.
The photo is from the night market food stalls.

Ben Were the Buddha statues really there because they were too old to be used in temples? I missed that fact. So, it was essentially a Buddha statue retirement home? x
