We took the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Denali, a 7.5 hour ride through the countryside to the wilderness. Our car had a glass top and sides, and our seats were as high as the second tier of a double decker bus. The dining room was below us. Mountain ranges, lakes and rivers, woods and mud flats, a variety of plant life, and a few animals like trumpeter swans. We were fortunate to see Mt. McKinley/Denali from the train.

We flew into Anchorage last night and started the day with a short hike followed by breakfast at the Snow City Cafe. The restaurant is known for using local and organic food and is an award winner. Later today, Grace and I geocached along the Coastal Trail which overlooks mud flats and Cook Inlet with mountains in the distance. We found the cache, my first in Alaska!
