Arrived around 1am and jen was waiting at arrivals to welcome us. We took a taxi back to her house and had a short tour before putting our laundry in the machine.
She showed us to the guest room, still a hard Asian bed, but nice to have a huge room and even nicer to have a massive shower :).
After a long night sleep we awoke to the patter of rain! A fairly tropical storm, as the weather had predicted. Consequently we took our time with breakfast and getting ready before taking a taxi down to peperoni restaurant for lunch. Here we met elizabeth Chau Chau!
A few starters and a 21 inch pizza later we were on our way to central on the bus. We took a stroll through the ion shopping centre, Singapores answer to westfields, and then headed to orchard road for bubble tea!
Bubble tea in singapore requires you to pick your sweetness level... Since Asians have such a sweet tooth! I went for a strawberry green tea.
Next up we took the mrt (Singapores underground, much worse than HKs) to Arab street. This was full of small shop houses, and home to a fairly big mosque.
Then we walked to buggis Market, a fairly busy one. This resulted in a couple of buys from Isha, and we also got some durian from the Market for later. While here I did stop for passion pops bubble tea! Which had amazing bubbles full of juicy passion fruit stuff.. One of my new favourites!
After this we headed to Marina bay on the mrt, and then to the Marina barrage. This had an absolutely beautiful view of the city and lots of kite flying. Very pretty place. After relaxing, watching sun set over the city, and eating durian, we attempted to make a borrowed kite fly. 3 aeronautical engineers and little success...
We then took a walk through the Marina bay sands shopping centre, this place had a small river running through it. This is also the building connected to the huge boat in the sky. The building with the highest swimming pool in the world.
We exited onto the helix bridge, stopping for lots of pictures thanks to the great view of the city.
Again the mrt to Newton, where we met two of Jens friends for dinner at the hawker centre (a kind of ring of small food places and seats). We ate a variety of things here including a spicy stingray which was great. We also had some weird juice drink which was really nice and even a coconut for a drink. There was also 'carrot cake' nothing like the carrot cake we know, a savoury veg dish with parsnips or 'White carrots' apparently. We also got dessert here, ice cream with all sorts of interesting stuff in it.
Next we headed to Clarke quay, the bar and club area of Singapore, this looked pretty lively for a Sunday.
We had a couple of tiger beers by the riverside, and then I decided it would be a great idea to go on the bungee jump ride nearby.
After persuading the ticket seller we were students and getting the cheaper price, me and Isha jumped on! It was awesome, and the adrenaline rush kept me happy until we got home :)
Good day in singapore, tomorrow Vietnam :)
