the reason i came to borneo was to visit the orangutang sanctury in the rainforest in sepilok. im glad to say the little ginger fellas didn't disapoint. to get round borneo you can either fly or take long bus rides, i opted for the bus to see the country and have been shocked at what i have seen. the bits of jungle i have seen have been amazing!!!! really strange plants huge tall tree's, lots of different animals, insects and birds,i keep expecting the odd dinosaur to make an apperance. but the sad fact is that huge parts of the jungle have been cleared to grow a tree which produces palm oil. palm oil is used in processed food and other things(google it!!). the reason so much jungle has gone is china and india are crazy for the stuff so unfortunatley the jungle has to go to make way for mile upon mile of palm oil plantations, and off course some people are getting very rich from it. the down side is the dissaperance of an amazing habitat, and the persicution of defencless animals( not just orangs!).im not a green tree hugger or even a vegitarian but im not blind or ignorant to the blatant disregard for this fantastic planet some people have. back home in england i had heard about this and was expecting it but what i imagined has come nowhere near the shock i have had.i dont no really what i can do about it, but if anyone is intrested you can adopt an orangutang at sepilok for 25 pound a year which helps the centre.please message me and i will be happy to forward the website address.i had to put somthing in the blog about this, coz that is what blogs are for.i will get back to normal on my next blog.....orangs are known as MAN OF THE FOREST.
