Leaving our Luxembourg digs behind us, we took off in the direction of Switzerland. Crossing the country border into la belle France without a glance, the French autoroutes carried us smoothly South.
As we approached the border for Switzerland it was a different story. Met by the Swiss flags flying and the police at border control, we had a flustered 5 minutes trying to find the exact weight of Mabel for the authorities so that they knew how much to charge us to be able to drive through their country! After declaring that she weighed 3.5 tonnes we were told we "just made it in to the "x" category at 40 Swiss francs, thank you very much". Colin offered to empty the fridge and we saw a glimmer of their understanding of his sense of humour and a more sympathetic smile towards me, having to put up with it! So, with Mabel's window newly decorated with her Swiss badge we descended into stunning mountain scenery.
Even with my poor knowledge of sports' cars, you could tell we were in flush Switzerland, as the class of car seriously revved up as we were overtaken by Lamborghini after Lamborghini, Porsche after Porsche and a few Ferraris to name a few and some Mercedes AMGs - as cited by Colin!). I saw some posh looking red cars, orange cars and a yellow one... ;o)
The tom tom brought us directly to the gate of the campsite at VITZNAU at 18h00 and after selecting our spot overlooking lake Lucerne, we did a speedy dress change into our swimmers and headed to the pool. We think we heard a big fat "tszzzzzzzzzz" as we lowered our overheated bodies into the water!
As the evening sun dipped over into the hills, it was finally cool enough for Colin to light his barby and have an earlier dinner than the night before, snuggling up to sleep knowing that we needed an early start in the morning if we wanted to see any of lake Lucerne before it became too hot to walk, let alone cycle.
Night night campers.
