Pamplona...the running of the bulls!
The air conditioning on our bus became our best friend from this point onwards on the trip!! Wow as soon as we got off the bus in Pamplona the heat hit us!! We stopped at the beach along the French coast on the way south to Spain but it wasn't any where near as hot as it was here!! We got to Pamplona at about 3.30pm and had a look around town for the rest of the afternoon, and it was about 38-40degrees all afternoon!! Mossburn has definitely not prepared me for that!!
A few of the boys on our tour had been to the running of the bulls just before we went on Contiki so gave us a bit of a walking tour of where and what happened! We started at the pens where the bulls are released and ended at the stadium where it happens! There are hardly any places at all to hide our gain shelter down the streets when the bulls are running so its either run like mad or hope like hell your not in the way!! A few tamer bull are let out first to lead the wilder ones all the way through the streets to the stadium. Aparently they change the bulls when they get into the stadium, so the ones that are actually involved in the fighting and killed at the end are different from the original ones released.
Our campsite that night in Pamplona was awesome!! The section that we were on was ages away from everyone else…im pretty sure they arrange that!! So we had a huge night!! We made up our rules for Circle of Death that day on the bus so put them into action that night, I have never played with so many people before, but it seemed to work! We had to use 3 packs of cards and everyone had about 2 turns before most were wasted and lost interest!!Particularly because Nick got the 'Drink or Dare' card…and of course he chose dare!! In the morning all he had left at the bottom of his head was a wee long rats tail!!!
Since it was so hot that day in Pamplona, we all though we would just sleep outside under the stars!! So we only put up a few tents to put all of our gear in…when the lightning started some people got a bit worried, then when the huge raindrops started everyone freaked out and started putting up their tents!!! The funniest part was that at this stage most people were reasonably drunk and it was dark so several of the tents were not put up that well!! And of course as soon as we got the tents up…it stopped!!
