Barcelona!! We stayed in Barcelona for 2 nights, and our campsite was right on the beach which was nice! When we arrived in Barcelona we had a bit of a bus tour to see the main sights. The newest and highest part of the city is around the 1992 Olympic Complex sitting on Montjuïc Hill. From here we were able to see the whole city including the port. We stopped at Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral one of Barcelona's main attractions. The Cathedral is huge! It is constantly being added to so when we were there was a lot of scaffolding around parts of it. Bull fighting is also a common event in Barcelona so we drove by the main arena before heading to the campsite. A few of the boys stayed in town and went to the fight that night.Since we were close to the beach the first night we had dinner at the campsite, made the most of the swimming pool and washing machines and headed to the beach. To start our full day in Barcelona off we had a walking tour of the Gothic district so saw the houses of parliament, several smaller cathedrals and wondered around the really small streets. The main attraction for the girls was the shopping. The home of Zara and La Rambla Street, we spent a considerable amount of time shopping and then decided to find the markets. This would have been so much easier if it wasn't siesta time! Once we actually found what we think was the market, it was closed for siesta! So we got lunch at the supermarket and ate in one of the large courtyards.
That night we went to a flamenco dancing show where we got sangria to start the night off, saw a few traditional dances by male and female, music and were able to join in! From there we went to the Olympic bar down at the port. All of the contiki groups meet here and pretty much spent the night there! After a good night, the taxi home was the most interesting! Driving along the motorway and 3am we thought we found our campsite. The driver didn't speak English and we didn't speak Spanish so we paid, got out and walked into the campsite….the wrong campsite!! The taxi had already gone but another one was driving the other way so we flagged him down and asked where we were! Luckily we were only about 200m away so just walked back!
