We left ho chi minh city last thursday (28th) and set out for our next destination which was cambodia. after spending a whole day on the bus we finally reached siem reap in the early evening. a very friendly tuk tuk driver calling himself mr.bean took us into the heart of the town and found us a really good guesthouse. our room was penthouse covering the whole top floor of the building. we made a deal with the same driver to take us around the angkor temples the next day. we saw angkor wat, angkor thom and the tomb raider temples and even managed to spot a monkey in the grounds. that evening we found ourselves playing pool and talking with some local cambodian prostitutes, very surreal experience.
the rest of our time in siem reap was eating local khmer curries/dishes at good restaurants with katie particularly enjoying her pumpkin curry and also trying to stop her spending money in the local night markets even though she was poorly with a cold. undetered she still managed to spend a small fortune...again!!!
we caught a bus to the capital. phnom penh on monday and again agreed for a local tuk tuk driver to take us to round the local sights the very next day. after getting up we set for the first stop, the S21 museum. An old local school which was turned into a torture camp and prision during pol pots reign of terror in the seventies. we then went onto the killing fields which was where mass killings/burials took place. all in all a very sombre morning. afterwards me and chris decided we wanted to fire some real guns at a local militery shooting range which was cool.
we leave today flying back to thailand. dont worry everyone we are not going near the protests....!!!
