Got picked up for cooking course by a man named Pot. After a couple of stops we dropped into the local market where we were introduced to a few local ingredients that would be used during the day. Then we were on our way to Pot and Nancy's house, our teachers for the day, just outside of Chiang Mai. Once we had strategically selected our dishes so there was no overlap we were straight to the high powered Woks! There was only 4 us us sometimes can be up to 10 I think so we had almost one to one tuition. Ingredients were laid infront of use ready to chop with a big sharp knife. Both of the teachers were superb and taught us the art of adding water to boling oil in a safe manner (some more than others...see pics). They were even on hand to treat my singed arm hair and minor burns with some freshly cut aloe vera! We made 6 courses during the day and also taught the art of vegetable carving while meeting Pot and Nancy's son; Peter Pan! After the course they very generously bagged some of our food up to take back to our guest house who then kindly warmed it for our evening meal.
On the way back we dropped into the Doisuthwep temple, essentially a massiv temple on a very high hill. Got a good luck blessing by a monk, unfortunately they wouldnt do this for April being a girl so the assistent did it for her. Good temple but a bit of a money making effort with dancers and street sellers etc around tainted it slightly from others we have seen. Comedy on the way up in the taxi wagon though. We shared the ride with a thai mum and her son. All of a sudden she said sorry to us, the next second the young lad emptied his guts out into the centre of the wagon with the contents slowly oozing down towards us. On the way down it had been cleaned but we saw he had polished a bottle of fresh orange juice. It was getting late so we were also sharing the ride with a monk. Unfortunately for the little lad (and slightly embarressed mum infront of the monk) within minutes we saw the OJ again but this time he was equipped with a collecting vessel. Lucky for him because he probably filled it equal to the volume he had just consumed from the drink!
