Compared to our luxurious bus ride from BA to Iguazu, our trip to Florionapolis was horrendous. We crossed the border very smoothly indeed after deciding to take a taxi to Brazil, rather than 3 buses in the boiling sun, and chilled in the bus station for an hour and a half; the calm before the storm. The bus arrived and we boarded, slightly anxious as we had only booked semi cama due to the massive increase in cost in comparison with neighbouring Argentina. It was boiling!! The locals were complaining straight off as the air conditioning wasnt working and it was like a sauna. The bus wasnt too bad though as our seats were relatively comfortable. After the sun had gone down and things had cooled down abit we did think we could survive comfortably until we arrived at our destiation at the scheduled 8am the following morning. This wasnt to be when after driving for 20 minutes we pulled up at a depot and all got ordered to get off the bus. No one spoke any English so we didnt have a clue what was going on for about 15 minutes until we realised we were shifting buses. The worst decision ever in our eyes as the next bus was really old and the seats just werent comfortable.
The night was interesting to say the least. All the films were shown in Portugeuse only, we couldnt get comfortable as the seats didnt recline properly and then they had the air conditoning on super cold. At midnight the bus stopped for food so we all got off and got some food and drink hoping this would settle us and send us off to sleep. Shez said he managed to get more sleep than he thought but I didnt get much at all and Ash certainly didnt after having another bout of stomach upset. The calm after the storm did arrive though evetually in the form of Roberta, our next hostel owner who was just amazing. The bus got in 3 hours late so we were all slightly annoyed and she soon had us feeling much better, we had a fdorm to ourselves with our own bathroom. We knew we were in for a good few days here.
