We spent the rest of our time in Florionapolis chilling, enjoying the weather when it was good and getting lost in the sand dunes! The day had started off with reasonably good weather and although it looked the sun was going to come out, it was overcast enough to brave walking the sand dunes to the beach. We had been told it would take upto an hour so off we headed. When we reached the big hills of sand we turned off the main road and headed across. For a good while we enjoyed being alone amongst the dunes, enjoying their vastness and the feel of sand between our toes. This was until we reached big pools of water with masses of greenery which cut our path from the beach... numerous times! After trying to get round for about an hour we gave up and headed back in the direction we came from then across the dunes again to attempt from another angle. Three hours later and we finally made it to the beach!! By this time the clouds had gathered and turned a bit blacker and it definately looked like rain. I enjoyed some acai (the local berrys with oats) before we made a mad dash to the bus stop to get back before we got soaked. The minute we stepped into the shelter the heavens opened, only to be told that the bus was not to be here for another hour and a half. What a day! Ash and Shez read their books to pass the time whilst I stood watch hoping that if I stared at the road for long enough the bus would appear!!
This was the day that I taught Shez to play cards. To be fair he was pretty good and well outplayed Ash when he joined us to play later that day. A brazilian guy had been helping us sort our BBQ that evening and so when he came to chat to us we asked him to join us in the card playing. He soon picked up the game and then had us playing the brazilian version of poker, truco. Ash and I paired up whilst Ash went with the local guy. Ash and I won which was a miracle to say 10 rounds later Ash still didnt appear to get the game. Shez disowned him as his brother and I claimed no blood link! Lets hope he was having us on.
As we prepared to bus to Sao Paulo to catch a connecting bus to Rio, we all hoped the journey would be less traumatic than the last. Oh and that Ash wouldnt be sick any more!! We could only hope for the best.
