Sorry I've been so slack on my updates..sitting at a computer when I could be surfing is a hard thing....
So, a couple of friends and I left cape town a week ago and rented a car and traveled up the coast. We're in Jeffrey's bay now and have been for about 4 days or so. We're staying at a beautiful hostel called "Island Vibe" set right on a small hill at the beach with a 260 degree view of the beach....seriously living the good life. It's nice to do the backpacker thing after volunteering. But at the same time my nepal/tibet lag of this adventure is fast approaching (8 days) and I'm getting excited for that, I'll be volunteering for a month in an orphanage in Kathmandu.
So what have I been up to in J Bay? Surfing. I'm hook on it in a big way. I wake up early every morning (the earlier u get up the better the waves and the least amount of ppl) and hit the waves. I do that for a few hours, grab a shower, lie on the beach for a bit, grab some lunch at the hostel or into at a cafe. To get to town you just walk along the beach for 5 minutes.... very tiring *smiles*. In the afternoon around 4 or so there's a another swell with the tides changing and we usually hit the waves again for a bit. Today I was up at 7:30 (wouldn't even dream of sleeping in here) and hit the waves after a quick breakfast. The best waves here are on the reef which can be dangerous so you have to be aware of how close you are to it etc. So I was out there this morning wit about 4 other people when I see a fin breach out of the water.... hmmm shark? (there's lots)...but no, a few seconds later 3 more fins pop out....there was 4 dolphins surfing the swells with us. :)
Evenings are spent with friends and a beer in the bar or around a fire. Two nights ago the sky was clear, the stars bright and then in the middle of the sky above the ocean was one big cloud with an electrical storm in side of it. African fireworks.
I know some of the star constellations in the southern hemisphere now which is kind of neat. Scorpio and the southern cross.
In the next few days we're heading up the coast to coffee bay...another surfing mecca. I'm telling you, it's a rough life.
I should tell you a little about J Bay. It's an international surfing mecca. In the winter months when the big swells come in they have surf competitions bring in people from all over the globe. Imagine this. Surfers coming from Hawaii to surf these super tubes and perfect barrels. Sigh.
If you've noticed that I haven't been adding pics it's because my blog photo uploader hasn't been working. but I just got a Gmail account and added some in it and can send you the link to check them out if you want. Just drop me a line if you to check em out.
Anywho, its 2 in the afternoon and the sand is calling my name.
Cheers.
