The trip has been fantastic and we are thoroughly enjoying the different landscapes, the people we are meeting and the experiences we are having.
After leaving Ceduna we spent Good Friday at a really great little town called Kimba. We camped at the free Apex Lions Park, really neat and tidy town but we had to be content with only looking in the windows as everything was shut.
Saturday we headed into Port August to shop, fuel up and wash the Beema......of course! We had lunch on the foreshore and then took off up the Stuart Highway towards Coober Pedy.
After having trekked across the Nullabor at a frantic pace we were really craving a quiet rest and relaxtion time so we spent the next 3 days parked at the Pimba pub. On the third day we drove to Woomera, the Defence Department's rocket launching range about 6 kms from Pimba. We then headed up to Roxby Downs where BHP are mining Uranium at Olympic Dam. Finally we head another 30 kilometres up the road to Andamooka, a very old opal mining town. We had sundowner at the pub on 2 nights. Along the way to our next stop we passed a massive lake, Lake Hart, that stretched for kilometres and because of the recent rains was very full.
On Tuesday we drove about 350 kms to a free camp about 12 kms south of Coober Pedy and both Bert and Tony put up their satellite dishes with mixed results. None the less, we did manage to have TV that night even though Bert threatened to throw his in the bush!
Wednesday and Thursday has seen us parked at a really great little spot in Coober Pedy called the Op Shop - $15 a night with power and the best water ever! A fantastic place to stay. We have had a great time checking out museums, opals and Aboriginal Art. Tomorrow morning, Anzac Day, we are going to the dawn service at the RSL, having breakfast there and then coming back to hitch up the vans and continue north. Next stop close to the NT border.
Stay tuned!
