Jonny's South American Adventure!
Well I'm now in Uruguay, but at times it felt like I would never get here! First of all we were grounded in Asuncion for an extra day because the bus we wanted had already gone by the time we reached the terminal, so we carted all our stuff back to Ed's and begged him to let us stay another night. The bus journey from Asuncion was a monster 22 hours, invloving three boarder crossings, none of which were quick and all of which were a farce. They wanted to check all everyones luggage, but by check I mean just put there hand in, feel around for a second and then let you pass. I could have smuggled anything in and they wouldn't have found it. jusdt our luck though that we had a family on our coach we looked like they were moving house so it took what seemed an eternity to get through. Plus there is an outbreak of foot and mouth so we had to stand on disinfectant mats and the bus get washed at each boarder - all done bleary eyed at 3 in the morning! The only funny thing that happened was that we got chatting to a woman who spoke a bit of English, and all she went on about was how beautiful Princess Di was, how Camilla looks like she needs a wash and how she doesn't like Charlie boy! My ankles must taste nice though, since I woke up with loads of bites all over them, which was annoying.
There's not an awful lot happening here in Montevideo, and people back home will no doubt be pleased to hear that the weather is pretty miserable. We have had rain - how rude! We've done the sights and the museums over the last couple of days and so have pretty much covered everything we need to. Uruguay has been a big contrast to Paraguay, which seemed such a poor place. Here is modern, with nice buildings and people actually seem to go to work!
We are moving just up the coast tomorrow, just for one night, before hitting Buenos Aires for the weekend.
Until next time, ciao.
