Jonny's South American Adventure!
Buenos noches!
Yesterday was a really good day as Ed and his girlfriend Laura gave us a guided tour of Asuncion, including the music school where he teaches. Whilst it isn't exactly brimming with wonderful sights, it was good to be told about the history and try to understand some of the reasons it is how it is. As well as being one of the most corrupt countries in the world, it is also still trying to recover from wars over 150 years ago, when 9 out of 10 people died. Paraguayans are just extremely laid back, and they just seem to quietly go about their business day to day, most of them just trying to survive. Apparently there are more jaguars than backpackers in Paraguay, so we are doing something not many people do.
After catching some rays on Ed's rooftop terrace, we went to the opera to see him perform in the evening. With an Italian opera in Spanish subtitles, we learned to appreciate the other aspects of the performance (a polite way of saying we tried to stay awake!). Then it was off for some drinks, driven by Lauras slightly crazy sister, and a club as we experienced a Saturday night out in Asuncion! It should come as no surprise that once again the women were absoulutely top draw! I have been trying to learn a few chat up lines in Spanish - but to no avail thus far! Having said that, two girls who we had literally only spoken to for a couple of minutes at the end, wanted Karl and I to go somewhere else with them after - but we declined the invitation!
Today has just been a lazy day planning ahead and totally changing our itinerary for the next few weeks, but we are meeting Ed again after his performance tonight to hit the town once more. Lets hope there is some juicy gossip in my next entry!
