Seas a little choppy this morning as we made our way to an island with a volunteer project this cruise company supports ( blue cruise is owned, run and staffed by Fijians many from the remoter islands) .
Saw the destroyed church by a cyclone from a few years back, they now use the village hall as their church. We all had to cover up and remove hats, the village children each got up to tell us their names how old they were and what they want to be, a couple of doctors, teachers and nurses.
There was a British volunteer who had only recently arrived, conservation work, reseeding the reef and education seemed to be the biggest focus. We were also shown an emergency food store in preparation for cyclone disasters.
I went to see the medical centre staffed by a doctor and nurse who both looked relaxed and they confessed they weren’t busy, everyone looked very healthy..
We made a donation and gave over our pencils and flag. Anybody want to volunteer here we will bring details home!
It was a bumpy and wet ride to get back on the ship as seas still choppy.
Now making our way to the next island for swimming before lunch, our last day ,could have easily done this for longer !
Last swim, last snorkel, last dinner, all too soon our last full day on board comes to an end. However we made it to midnight with the party animals, the Aussies. Have met some interesting people, only two other Brits, a couple of ladies from Sheffield who like us have travelled NZ before enjoying Fiji time, a few Europeans, Canadians, kiwis and of course the Aussies, it is for them their back yard.
