Wellington

Dec 30th 2011 (Travel Lodge Wellington)

Well this place has lived up to its name today because it has not stopped pouring all day!!

We were up at 6.15am to get ready to drop off our Rav 4 and catch our Ferry to North Island. All went smoothly & no weight restriction. We had a nice table in the bar with 2 easy chairs where we could see straight ahead out of the 'front' window. Sadly the weather was horrendous- heavy rain- so what should have been a lovely scenic cruise down the Queen Charlotte Sound just wasn't. However, it was really relaxing & we could sit and read our books without being crammped up as we would have been had we flown. Getting our new car went smoothly and we now have a Ford Falcon XR6 which Pete loves 'cos it's a 4 litre, straight 6, something or other ie it's fast!! It's BRIGHT REDand very comfy which is good enough for me!!!

This afternoon we went to the NZ Museum (Te Papa) which was really well set up and v interesting. We were both sorry when it closed at 6pm.!

We're at Travel Lodge in the city centre so although the room is quite small we have a comfy settee and a microwave so we had some really nice microwave dinners tonight with wine out of our box!!!!

There are fireworks at the harbour tomorrow night so we shall head off there providing this rain stops.

Dec 31st (Sat - New Year's Eve!)

And still it rains & rains & rains & rains!!!

Went back to the Museum because it's raining still and it's very well done and very interesting.

When we got back to the room we turned on the TV to find that Wellington had to cancel the New Year's Eve celebrations & fireworks because of the --------------------- ------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ yes , you guessed it, ----------- Rain!!!!!

Good timing on our part!

So looks like we're having a quiet night in!!!
