A perfect day in Roatan
Well - every day is more or less perfect in Roatan; and really; I'm talking picture postcard quality here. Anyhow, rise at Casa Rosada (the 'Pink House'- where I rented the downstairs apartment from Pam and Erna - two Texan sisters now calling Roatan home) more or less at seven; have a slow coffee; go for a (fastish) run; come back sweating like a trooper; cool off in the plunge pool taking in the view of the Caribbean; have breakfast; realise it is going to be another perfect albeit very hot day; check in for a dive at Reef Gliders at 08h30-ish; have a one-on-one briefing with the dive instructor (Coralie - accountant from Canada - or Jen - teacher from Australia - as the case may be) - one-on-one since I am the only paying diver aboard Nelson's Revenge (courtesy the low season (even though the rain has not arrived) and the low politics (courtesy a solution not having arrived); take a 3 minute cruise to the designated dive spot (Fish Den was my absolute favourite; my vocab is too limited to do it justice); drop off into the pristine blue; smile a lot (which in my case means water leaking into my mask the whole time); complete an hour dive at maximum twenty meters; slowly cruise back; have a coffee at Michelle's Wet Spot; chill and discuss the dive; take in some beach time on Half Moon Bay; take in some hammock time at Casa Rosada (maybe doing a few minutes / hours of Spanish); nap; shower; sundowners at Sundowner - see the perfect sun setting perfectly across a perfectly becalmed ocean; more beers at the Wet Spot; stroll around to find some dinner (the West End is not called 'gringo town' for nothing - what you can find in LA you can pretty much find here); yawn loudly; tuck in.
