On our way to the glaciers we stopped at Haast gate which is a huge rushing river & then at a waterfall where Antonio went down to the water to get a pic & got bit to death by sand flies. We then spent 2 sunny days in Fox glacier charging the van before heading to Franz Josef.

We arrived in Franz and headed to Chateau Franz motel which is part of the same chain we stayed in in Christchurch. We arranged with the motel that we would do 1 and half hours cleaning a day to park and use facilities for free. Chris and Kirsty were also staying there so the 4 of us jumped in her car and headed to the Glacier. We walked around 45 mins before reaching the base of the Glacier. The Glaciers were breath taking, its so weird to be stood so close to ice in a vest and shorts in the sunshine. The following night we went for dinner & a few drinks with Chris and Kirsty before heading back to the motel. On our final day we went to the hot spa pools, they were set amongst lush gardens and included 3 pools heated at 36, 38 and 40 degrees.
