We arrived in Queenstown to glorious sunshine and after finding out the nearest freedom campsite was 12km out of town we decided just to park up on a street that had free parking. We spent the day getting to know the place better before Antonio got the best news he had received in weeks...That one of the bars was showing a replay of the Man U VS City game!!! This was the afternoon taken care of! That evening we went to meet Chris and Kirsty for a few drinks at a nice bar that resembled a ski lodge and even had a big fire burning in the middle of the room. As we left the bar pretty late we could not be bothered to cook and attempted to get a McDonalds or another take away. Unfortunately we were in the only place in the world where all the fast food places shut before the gift shops, sweetshops and clothes shops which were all still open but lacking food! In the end we headed back to the camper and cooked up some pasta for the umpteenth time.
The next day was Valentines and as the weather was so nice we went for a walk in the park by the massive lake. In the afternoon we went on the Gondola which went up the side of huge mountain to give a spectacular view of the Queenstown skyline. Angie was a bit scared when it stopped (even though on the inside door it clearly said we may stop on occasions and that it is normal!)and was rocking. Once we reached the top we went on a ski lift up another part of the mountain to go on a luge (a sledge crossed with a kart. It was so much fun! The first ride you have to take the scenic route which is slower and Antonio trying to take a turn to quickly ended up getting his luge stuck so Angie won. The 2nd ride we did was on the advanced track which had loads of big drops (making Antonio airborne at one point. He won this race so we were both happy for the day. That night we went for a really nice Indian and Antonio had secretly been and bought Angie a card (even though we agreed not to).
After leaving Queenstown we headed to the Glaciers in the West Country stopping in Wanaka on the way and going to Puzzle World. It has a 2 level maze. We took the difficult challenge where you had to reach the towers in all four corners in a particular order. They advise most people complete the maze in 1-1.30hrs and cover around 3-5kms going back and forth. After getting lost a few thousand times we got on a role and completed the course in 1hr 10mins!!! We then went in the illusion rooms (A series of rooms with different styles of illusions to make us feel trippy). These included a room of holograms and a room where the pictures seemed to turn their heads and follow you. There was room where it looked normal through a window looking in but as soon as you went inside it was slanted. The final room was all slanted making it very hard to walk in with loads of illusions including a pool ball rolling up hill water running upwards and a swing at an impossible angle. Antonio did some other puzzles before we left and Angie waited (as we all know she is not the most patient person in the world!!!). We had a lot of fun here and also had lunch overlooking the gigantic Lake Wanaka before continuing our journey to the Glaciers.
