Antoinette Hildebrandt's Travels
Today we went to the Palace of Versailles. It was as beautiful as I remembered. Unfortunately, the queens rooms were undergoing conservation work so we didn't get to see anything of Marie-Antoinette. When we got to the obligatory museum shop I was excited to find a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of "The Crowning of Napoleon" At my last visit I bought the 4000 piece version and have never been able to complete it as I haven't had a table big enough - it's over 1.5 m long. Now that I have a smaller version, 20 years later, I will be able to finish it!
We caught the train back into Paris and went to the Notre Dame Cathedral. After looking inside we climbed to the top - we even got to see inside one of the bell towers. Lisette counted the stairs - 816 up and back again (408 each way ).
We then stopped for a quick look in the archeological crypt where you can see the Roman ruins.
On the way back to our apartment we visited the Musée de Cluny- National Museum of the Middle Ages. I especially enjoyed the tapestries of "the Lady and the Unicorn"
