The day started just after 12am when several drunk chinese people seemed convinced our room was theres. We woke up to the noise of the door trying to be opened repeatedly, luckily it was fully locked and they soon realised they had the wrong room. After a few hours sleep we rose at 6am as we needed to go up the final steps on the mountain to watch the sunrise. It was very cloudy and visibility was poor, just as we were about to give up the sun broke through the clouds for a beautiful sunrise and everyone there cheered. We were very lucky to see it and being above the clouds it felt like the end of the earth.
After the stunning morning events Chinese breakfast was served, this consisted of a boiled egg, plate of peanuts, cabbage, pickled cabbage, steamed buns, rice gruel and a questionable brown gooey square. The chinese really can not do breakfast. We ate...hardly anything and retreated to the room for a snickers and our last remaining brunch bar. Once packed we began our decent down the mountain - cable car, walk (this time monkey free) and a 2 hour bus ride. I managed to fall alseep on the bus while Ant witnessed the terrible driving once again, it seems normal to overtake another bus on a bend as long as you beep the horn frantically!
We had lunch again at the "Teddy bear hotel" where we both agreed the food was good but we were sick of rice. The downside of a tour would seem that if meals are included the guide selects the dishes and we have little involvement. On our return to the hotel we checked our tour book for suggested western restaurants in the local area. We discovered "Peter's Tex Mex" which served american and mexican dishes, hailing a cab we were surprised how easy it was, cars going at 50 would quickly pull in to pick us up. The food at Peter's was delicious, Ant and I both had a cheese steak burger and it definitly satisfied the craving of food at home. We are now off to bed as tomorrow is panda day before our flight to Xian.

Deborah Clements Not a good start with being woken by drunks - at least the sunrise was memorable and the dinner! Here's hoping for a much better day tomorrow and truly memorable for all the right reasons!
