Our final day in China, so after a morning of packing we flew to Tokyo in the afternoon. The flight consisted of a transfer in Shanghai, which neither of us have encounted before. It was similar to a cattle market where we were split off from the main group and left in a holding area. Before being checked and signed out of the country in order to proceed back to the plane we just got off of!
So to sum up China:
Pros
- Panda day!
- Yangshuo - loved the hotel, staff, food and the town
- The happiest driver in Beijing
- The great wall of China, enough said!
- Rice terraces and the home cooked meal
- Temple of heaven in Beijing was tranquil and a beautiful building
Cons
- Disgusting squatty toilets
- Spitting anytime and anywhere
- Starring and the obvious double takes
- Camp Tony
- Mt Emei hotel, before the upgrade
- Lack of queuing, more of a push and shove mentality
Having arrived in Tokyo late in the evening we arranged to stay in the airport hotel. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, a nice change from China. We went to the top floor bar for a drink and snack, the view looked across the airport and was lovely. We did mess up slightly on the food, ordering an appetiser we believed was a sharer platter at £15, when in fact it was a tiny plate of 4 taster dishes whoops!
