After an early start, we took the metro to the Berlin Bahnhof and caught the ICE (fast train) to Wittenberg, arriving at 9.30am. We spent the day acquainting ourselves with W, visiting, amongst many places, the Castle Church (pictured: where Luther nailed the 95 theses on Oct 31, 1517) and city church where he worked and preached over 2000 times. Our scheduled walking tour was interrupted by a thunder storm (how ironic given Luther's pledge during a storm). Main buildings are all undergoing restoration work in preparation for the 500 year anniversary in 2017, hence the scaffolding and warping on buildings as in the photo. We did have time for a late afternoon ale in the Brau Haus, before dinner and evening reflective discussions, which was very pleasant. We also discovered some lovely bakeries and started making up for lost 'kuchen and bun' time.
