Hello all,
So after a short and interrupted sleep from the bunk below, we got a 5 hour train to Barcelona! Even the scenery on the way was amazing, it was very rocky and baron at times with intermittent small terra-cotta villages giving off a slight " you could be in Mexico vibe".
In contrast to our last hostel this would be one of the best we have ever stayed at and we had 3 nights here! We were also able to watch the Olympics (like live swimming) on the projector which was great because sadly it's been hard to get involved and follow much. Especially when Spanish TV only shows sports the Spanish excel in.
Much better roommates except for one guy who sat on his bunk bed and starred at Ant for 20 minutes in the semi darkness while he got ready for bed.
So day one and two we took easy as Ant was still under the weather. We checked out a few of the popular tourist sites: Port Vell, a St Kilda like strip of beach with live music and local food stalls, the notorious hold on to your wallets La Rambla, many Gaudi masterpieces such as the quirky Casa Batllo, his famous Park Guell (with amazing 360 views of the city) and of course La Sagrada Familia. After much deliberation we decided to lash out and go inside the latter and OMG was it worth the 28 euro. We finally understand the hype, the geometric shapes, crazy architecture and his genius and so mind blowing to look at. Check out the photos of it!
Our final day and Ant was finally on the mend! As the weather has been low thirties since we got here we finally had a date with the beach! Oh so crystal clear and picturesque.
We both absolutely loved Barcelona, there are so many great places to explore, shop, relax, eat and appreciate. The metro was also really clean, well designed, air coned and didn't smell like a sewer. Tomorrow we pick up our Wicked campervan and hit the road, not too sure of an exact route but will start by driving from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, yes across the entire country to the north west coast and down into Portugal from there.
Adios!!
