After many catch ups, a taste of summer, three weddings, a trip to Margaret River and many sad goodbyes it was time to head back to our temporary home in London. This flight however, we decided to break up the long flights and take advantage of a stopover in Singapore.
Both being our first time there we were excited for an unknown taste of westernised Asia, a catch up with friends and the anticipation of pleasing our taste buds!
First thing to hit us was the humidity, luckily singapore doesn't hold back on air-conditioning. Our hotel located in Little India was beautiful and we immediately crashed after our long flight and a little jet lag .
Our first day began with a trip to Singapore Zoo, a tropical zoo with most of your standard animals, plus some more exotic, but it was the otters that grabbed our attention with their erotic play that greatly humoured us and had kids asking "Mum, what are they doing?"
After the zoo we went to the Botanical Gardens that holds the National Orchid Gardens and when the humidity was too much we hit Orchard Road, the extravagantly famous shopping strip with one shopping centre after another.
Where most tourists opted for the Gucci and Prada stores, we headed for the local food courts, otherwise known as "Hawker Centres" to feast on the local cuisine.
That night we met up with Ant's friends Ben, Rinka and Chloe for a night on the town. After admiring the city view from Ben and Rinka's 36th story apartment, we headed down to Robertson Quay for Korean BBQ. After we decided to check out the view from the roof top bar of the tallest building in Singapore on the 64th floor. With the most amazing 360 view of the city in lights nothing could be more appropriate then to try the famous Singapore Sling cocktail.
After more drinks at Clark Quay we had a very amusing experience when a 75 year old local man attempted to ride us home in a cart attached to his bicycle. Drunk and up for adventure we agreed to give him a go but after 20m of moving at 5km/h which included the man stopping at the slightest incline of path and us rolling backwards we decided not to be victims of over ambition.
The final day we started with breakfast at the famous Raffles hotel, then off to a ride on the Singapore flyer, the highest wheel in the world that gave us a great perspective of the city during the day. After we hit the casino at Marina Bay Sands then tried out the new attraction called "Gardens by the Bay". Walking around these gardens can only be described as being in the world of avatar. A very cool and worth while attraction. We ended the day in China Town where, to Ant's joy, we randomly came upon a Tin Tin shop.
