Welcome back as we embark on our next adventure through Scandinavia and the Baltics. The plan? Four weeks. We begin in Norway, travelling from Stavanger in the south, and make our way all the way up north to Tromso and the midnight sun over two weeks. Taking in some incredible scenery of the famous fjords along the way and using a range of transport modes. After exploring the capital, Oslo, we make our way to Sweden, then a short flight to Riga, Latvia where we begin a road trip to Tallinn, Estonia. Finally we catch a ferry across to Finland for our final stop before flying back to London.
We left London on Monday the hottest day of the year. It would be a full days journey to our rest stop at the base camp of the famous hike to Pulpit Rock. We flew SAS to Stavanger, then it was a further bus, ferry and bus. The scenery since landing has already been some of the most breathtaking we have ever scene. On the ferry from Stavanger to Pau alone we passes small islands, blue crystal waters, small fishing villages and the beginning of the Lysafjord.
Our hostel at the base of the walk was set on a huge lake surrounded by mountains. Full moon that night reflected on this lake like we had never seen! Darkness did not fall until well after 11pm.
The next day, after eating the best free breakfast at a hostel we have ever had, we began the 4 hr return hike to pulpit rock. Truly once in a lifetime views looking out on to the fjord at a drop of over 600m. If this is just a taste of Norway's scenery then we are so excited for the weeks to come.
Today we take the ferry back to Stavanger where we explore this old fishing town before heading north to Bergen tomorrow.
