We arrived in Stavanger on Wednesday and after checking into our tiny room which barely fit our king single bed in (worst sleep ever) we headed out to explore this small city. Over the course of the day, we absolutely fell in love with Stavanger thanks to its charm, which included a massive food festival on the docks with food from all over the world as well as fresh seafood (Nat found some of the best oysters she's ever had).
Tuesday we headed off on our first road adventure in Norway, traveling on a 'ferry bus'. What is a ferry bus you ask? We wondered the same thing! Turns out it is a bus that drives onto car ferries (which are everywhere in Norway) and gets transported across fjords to other roads! This made for a very scenic adventure on our way to the beautiful city of Bergen!
3 days in Bergen included a full day trip east several hours (halfway to Oslo!) to Flam, where we caught the very scenic Flam Railway, a slightly overhyped but beautiful rail journey through mountain tunnels and down into a valley perched at the end of one of the largest fjords in Norway! Our final day in Bergen was our only day for exploring the city and the main thing was climbing one of the neighbouring mountains that surround the coastal city to an amazing view of the city as the sun set, a great way to finish our time in this very cool city!
On Sunday we picked up our hire car with excitement for our upcoming road trip north to Trondheim via some amazing driving roads and fjords! Yeehaw!
