Tour day 2. After the best breakfast all you can eat of our lives we began a 4 hr drive to Meknes. This meant plenty of time to meet and greet the rest of our group. Leaving the coast also meant a crazy increase in temp, resulting in constant sweat that was to remain for the following week. We had a city tour of Meknes, a former imperial city of morocco. Then back on the bus to volubilis, a UNESCO world heritage site, of the largest roman ruins in Africa. Beautiful but hard to take in when it's 45 and no shade. Then it was off to Fez, another imperial city of morocco, our hotel was majestic. Giant rooms, plasma, balcony, epic pool. After a much needed swim we went for dinner and a show. 3 course
Moroccan feast where we first got to try Pastilla, a traditional chicken, almond and cinnamon pie that is insanely good! The show involved traditional dancers, music, belly dancers that pulled us on stage (Ant's hips don't lie), and the reenactment of a Moroccan wedding. Of the many people in that restaurant of course it had to be us that were selected as the "lucky couple". Taken out the back we were kitted up by the local women, and having no idea what we were to do we were hustled on stage in front of the entire restaurant. I was ushered into a basket where unbeknown to me the basket was suddenly lifted into the air by 6 locals and spun around. All ant/the groom did was sit on the side and watch! With only a brief demo we were then forced to jig on the spot until they deemed the wedding to be over. The only thing that got us through that crazy experience was the pretty extensive session of pre drinks at the hotel bar. For the rest of the tour we were known as the honeymooners!
