I'm so high...
Been in Bolivia for a week now and it's been absolutely awesome!!!!!! I eventually got used to the life in high altitude, but the first few days I was having problems breathing and minor headaches.. but the coca leaves helped:)
We've been staying at "hostels" 4300m high and the highest place we drove to was at 5060m, where we went to see geysirs. Bolivia has exceeded all my expectations and I would love to have more time to explore this amazing country. Bolivia is VERY different to Argentina. Argentina is quite european and there's an international mix of people in Buenos Aires. Here we really stand out and often we've been the only western people on a bus.
Our first stop in Bolivia was a small town called Tupiza. There we went horse riding and admired the beutiful rocks and scenery. (I've even taken a video clip of the rocks, that's how impressed I've been) Another really interesting experience was a bolivian disco that we were fortunate to attend in Tupiza. And it really was a disco, not a bar or a club, but just like the discos we had in Finland when we were in primary school! The guys formed a line and girls facing them were dancing in another line.. I'll show you the moves when I get back! Anyway, it was pretty funny..
After that we embarked on a four day jeep trip to Salar de Uyuni, the world largest salt flats. We saw hundrerds of flamingos, lamas and lots of other animals (but I don't even remember what they were called..) Lama is now officially in my top 3 favourite animals. They are so adorable!
We visited almost 10 different lagoons and saw some volcanos as well. The best bit was the salt flats. We went to see the beautiful sunrise, visited a cactus island and spent the day taking silly pictures. I can hopefully get them in my facebook in the next week. Our group was great; me, Saara, 2 english and 1 aussie plus we had a great driver and a wonderful cook. In other words, that was one of the best experiences ever.
I guess tonight will be an early one, since we didn't really sleep that much on the jeep trip and last night we were on the nightbus again and they are nothing like to ones in Argentina, I can tell you that. It kept on stopping all the time, lights flicking on and off and I hit my head a few times against the window (I have a bruise!) since the driver was so mad.
After a visit to La Paz, we arrived safe and sound to Copacabana. It's a town right by the Lake Titicaca and tomorrow our plan is to go island hopping.
Everything has gone so smoothly on our trip and I've managed to avoid "the famous bolivian diet" (so far... knock knock!) Weather has still been great, it hasn't been cold at all. During the nights it can get below zero but the days have still been baking hot - just the way I like it. :)
