After a relaxing few hours by and in the pool at Tom and Sarah's apartment we set off to begin our New Year celebrations. We had been invited to watch The 10 pm fireworks from the roof top of an apartment block which has a spectacular view of Melbourne city skyline. We were entertained and fed by Mat and Kristy with another of Mat's wonderful barbecues. Their friend, Sammy has recently moved into the brand new apartment block and we were delighted to be able to join them to watch the celebrations. As many of the trams and buses had been cancelled or re routed to avoid the centre it actually took us over an hour to get to Sammy's so we decided to stay there to see in the New Year rather than risk missing out by being delayed again if we travelled back into the centre where we were meant to be for midnight. Needless to say, the firework display was awesome.(there, I am turning Australian). Walking home at 2 am along the Southbank area was a great experience, masses of people also walking back to their homes - all very festive - no loutish behaviour seen and again I felt very safe in Melbourne.
