David and I and Tom and Sarah arrived this morning in Tasmania, just a one hour flight from Melbourne. Picked up our hire car and drove the few miles into Hobart. The city holds a huge open air market every Saturday so it was lucky we arrived today and our hotel was 2 minutes walk from Salamanca, the area by the harbour where the market takes place. It was very windy so stall holders were kept busy trying to retain the plastic sheeting that covered the stalls. In the middle of the market live music was being performed by a group of 3 musicians who kept shoppers entertained and added to the happy atmosphere. The stalls sold mainly local crafts and food. We bought salmon sausages in rolls (tasty) for lunch. We wandered around the harbour area and saw a few of the ocean going yachts that had just completed the Sydney - Hobart race. The wind was so strong that no pleasure boats were venturing outside the harbour. We took a drive south of Hobart to view the coastline and countryside before going out to dinner at one of the many fish restaurants around the harbour.
