Our overnight journey on the double decker 'King Of Bus' was notable only for the pink and yellow flourescent strip lighting, the tempestousness of the air conditioning and the unappreciated 'opportunity' to watch 'War Of The Worlds' (the Tom Cruise version). A tuk-tuk, a bus and a river taxi later and we had set foot on Don Det, one of the Four Thousand Islands which sprinkle across the Mekong at its widest point (14km). The number (and size) of the islands depends on the river flow / time of year, though some if the bigger ones are habitable all year round. This is a place where the living is cheap ($1.5 per night for a bungalow), the beer is cheap but expensive by the standards of the accomdaotion ($1), and a good meal only set you back $0.8. From our bungalow on Sunset Strip you can watch the sunset (our accomodation does what it sends on the tin). We would report on our first day in more detail but essentially we did absolutely nothing...
