This morning a bus had been organised to take us from Thamel to where the truck was parked. This was easier said than done as there was a riot happening on the road out of town and we weren't allowed through that way. Another way we went was also blocked, but the police let us drive through anyway past the burning tires and stuff. It wasn't a very good riot anyway, mostly just a bunch of people standing around staring at the truck.
We got out of town though and wound our way out of the Kathmandu valley, and into more winding valleys with raging rivers and clouds in them. Even the really steep valleys have terraced rice paddies right up the sides of them.
We stayed for a couple of nights at Borderlands resort, which s about 20km away from the Chinese border. They have covered "tent rooms" here which look kinda cool, but we are all camping next to a really rushing river. You can do all sorts of adventurous activities from here. On the second day a bunch of people walked a little way up the valley to the "Last Resort" to do bungee jumps and canyon swinging off their 160m high suspension bridge - not for the faint-hearted! Most of the rest of us spent the day lounging around in the bar area doing absolutely nothing, which was great! It started raining in the afternoon and didn't stop all night, but it's a really nice place here and we just needed a nothing day to unwind after Kathmandu. The 9th was Jack's 21st birthday so we had a few drinks in the bar but not too many as we had to be up early for a border attempt the next morning.
