Hi everyone!
As you've probably guessed, we've been having a little trouble uploading the photos to the blog site but fingers crossed we'll be able to soon.
On Monday 14th February we made a 7 hour public bus journey to Phnom Penh. The scenery along the way was amazing, no two houses are the same and the contrast in landscapes keeps you interested, we had no need for our ipods. The driver of the bus was very fond of his horn so there was no chance of sleeping. Also, the many near misses with other vehicles, cows, dogs and motorbikes carrying various loads (including pigs thrown over the back), kept us entertained. Another thing to note is that it is perfectly acceptable for woman over here to wear pyjamas all day, definitely should adopt that in England.
Tuesday 15th February, we had the morning free to explore the capital city Phnom Penh. So we headed for the central market, a huge yellow building packed with stalls selling anything from diamonds to pots and pans. We made a quick trip by tuk tuk to the Royal Palace which involved us being stuck in the middle of a huge crossroad with no traffic lights and cars coming from every direction - very different to a taxi ride back home! In the afternoon, we visited S21 and the killing fields. It was a very shocking and upsetting afternoon, but we learned a lot.
On Wednesday 16th February we had yet another early start to make the journey to the beach resort of Sihanoukville. We arrived at the Coolabah Resort around three and headed straight to the beach. We had lunch at the Angkor Beach Bar which became our base. Whilst relaxing in oversized comfy chairs on the seafront we watched a lovely sunset over the pier. After freshening up we returned to the beach with the group to have a BBQ for dinner. The food was lovely and after consuming a few cocktails we ended up at a club called Utopia which was next door to our hotel. This was an eventful night as it was Christian's birthday and at midnight most of the group celebrated by jumping in the pool at the club. The party carried on late into the night and back at the hotel at our own pool. Luckily we had a lie in the next morning!
That's all we've got time for now but hopefully we'll update more later! Hope you're all well!
Hugs and kisses
