Hi everyone!
Firstly a big apology for not writing a blog entry for so long, we've literally not had a minute to spare with lots of travelling and things to see. We last left you in Sihanoukville after the big night out. The following day on the 17th February, after a cold night not knowing how to alter the air-con, we headed to the beach for some brunch and a spot of sun bathing. We returned to the hotel in the afternoon and managed to make a few phone calls home :-). In the evening we once again returned to the beach and had a lovely BBQ.
On the 18th February, we left Sihanoukville early for a 4 hour bus journey which brought us to the Cambodia/Vietnam border. After an hour of formalities where our passports were scrutinised closely, our bags scanned and we walked through a heat detection room, we finally made it into Vietnam. An hour later we arrived into Chau Doc. In the evening we got picked up and wizzed off on the back of motorbikes up a mountain to a hammock bar to watch the sunset over Cambodia. We were both rather scared about the bikes but we were well looked after by our drivers (even though they did seem to be racing one another), and it was a really enjoyable experience. On the way back to the hotel we stopped at two places of worship and took some pictures. Tonight was an early night in order to get ready for another long day of travelling.
Saturday the 19th February was mainly a long bus ride with a short ferry crossing in between to get to Ho Chi Minh City. On the journey our tour leader gave three awards to the group. We won the award for punctuality (we are so cool tee hee). Once we arrived in the city we had a short walking tour after which we visited Ho Chi Minh City's world famous market. However, we were not impressed by the prices and the refusal to barter. In the evening we met the new additions to the group, 2 Canadian guys, 3 Norweigian girls and 2 Australian girls. We all went out for a lovely meal then to a few bars to celebrate the new joiners and say a farewell to Sarah, Jennifer, Veronica and Vilhelm.
On Sunday 20th February we had a trip to the Cuchi tunnels in the jungle. We had a go at getting into one of the tiny entrances to the tunnels. We also saw many of the booby traps hidden around the area. As we walked around you could hear the sound of guns being shot in the distance. This was from the on site firing range where most the group took part in shooting AK47s. After exploring some of the tunnels we all sat down and ate tapioca which was eaten by the soldiers in the war. As we left the hotel to catch an overnight sleeper train we waved goodbye to Veronica and Vilhelm. The sleeper train was suprisingly nice! We had a little cabin with two bunk beds which we shared with Ashley and Caitlyn. At 5am we arrived in Nha Trang...
