Come Fly With Me
Well managed to get over here somehow... Arrived in Krabi with sore legs and decided to kick back, relax, and think about heading out to a beach somewhere. It was important to spend a night in Krabi to make peace with the town that, last time we were here, managed to take me to a whole new world of pain with the sadistic nurses in Krabi hospital (a by-product of the whole motorbike saga). And so we did - wandering around all afternoon, checking out the amazing food market, following the path along river...the afternoon became evening and we walked through the night market and noted some nice-looking bars. We were set for a good, chilled night. We investigated diving (possible but bad visibility?) and then checked our emails. And that's when Krabi became a distant memory with an email from Caro's Chris that had us in Koh Pha Ngan the next day. Well, sadly we didn't meet up with him, but we arrived on KPN a bit ahead of schedule and have had a pretty mad time since! Days have been sunbathing, swimming and sleeping - a necessity given the nights of partying we've had! The weather hasn't been fab and I'm so glad to have a Perhentian tan - but the occasional rains have given me a pretty fab excuse to wander into one of the Friends cafes and rewatch (and rewatch and rewatch!) my favourite sitcom. We've checked out a couple of beaches around the corner from Haad Rin, where we're staying in the exact same bungalow we stayed in last time we were here, 4 years ago! Haad Rin has changed so much - busier, more towny, no more dirt roads, too much building, very busy beach and a sea you really wouldn't want to swim in after watching what happens there every night (use your imagination!). But then again, we're here for the Full Moon Party and precious little else - so it's all about warming up! I seem to have developed a resistance to the lethal Sangsom buckets (surely no bad thing?!) and my age is showing through the partying I think - but Caro's on top form! We've met an awesome crowd of people - Emma, Cassie, Glynn, Laurie - we've had some fun hey?! Diving has been put on hold thanks to a full-blown ear infection, making me only more determined to make the most of Koh Tao. Replacement highlights have been the boat tour round the island - I'm sure we were ripped off and shunted onto one that wasn't what we were after, but we still got to see lots more of KPN and had a real laugh, with an energy that far outlasted the huge group of Israelis we thought might put us to shame at the beginnning of the trip (and a fab day was rounded off with not only the best Indian I've had in a long time, but Jenson's win...savour the moment). Tonight is KPN's infamous Full Moon Party, which we've been building up to for a week. We've got a couple of friends appearing from elsewhere, and I foresee a good few hours' drinking, chatting and slathering on UV paint on our balcony before hitting the beach at midnight. The place has been getting busier and busier, and the warm-ups madder and madder...so I think the night's going to be pretty huge! I might be crazy, but in a bid to get away from the Sangsom and an overdose of partying, I've set myself the task of seeing the sunrise before packing up and heading straight over to Koh Tao - this time tomorrow, I'll be in diving heaven! I'm so excited - I've booked into my Rescue Diver course and can't wait. Right - better get set for this Full Moon thing...see you on the otherside. And on Koh Tao.
