Hola everyone!
I'm currently in Tena awaiting my next trip to the jungle, this time the Cloud Forest. Tena is one of the biggest town's in the Oriente and so far my favourite one as the other's I have visited are were all dirty and smelly and full of petroleum companies.
There's not much to do in the actual town but it's really nice to stroll around here and take in the sites of the surrounding jungle.
I visited the Parque Amazonico "La Isla" at the confluence between the rivers Tena and Pano, which is full of botanical gardens and rescued wildlife like snakes and spider monkeys and there's a random ostrich wandering around, which is a bit unnerving!
I spent the morning looking for and speaking to a doctor about my pig bite! He made me buy a tentanus injection, a course of antibiotics and some anti-inflammatory drugs from the chemist before spending ages cleanng the wound with alcohol. He then asked me if I wanted the tetanus injection in my arm or in my arse, as if there is even any question?! I'll see if the bite looks spectacular enough later when I clean it to take a picture for you and then you might get to see how brave I am?!
I'm staying in a really nice hostal after my two weeks of sleeping on an uneven wooden floor with cockroaches and a toilet infested with ants. When I arrived this morning at 3am I had the loggest HOT shower before going to sleep in the BED with a PILLOW! I have one more night in luxury after that who knows?!
Tomorrow I have to get a bus to Mushullakta and then hike to the community for a couple of hours. Hopefully there will be someone to meet me when I get off the bus! It is a Quichua community that live in the Sumaco Reserve, so hopefully I should have an 'interesting' time!
I return to Tena on 30th November/1st December, when I will be doing some mad white water rafting!
See you in two weeks time!!
Anna xxxx
