We kicked off our afternoon in New Orleans by taking the St. Charles streetcar allllllll the way to Cafe DuMonde for the well known cafe au lait and beignets. All 5 orders were totally worth it. We loved them!!! With full bellies we hopped aboard a carriage ride around the French Quarter. We scored a very vibrant, informative tour guide, named 'Showtime' who gave us plenty of history, lots of entertainment and even some New Orleans folklore. We had no idea to expect such tales of haunted houses, voo doo and vampires. We then hit LUSH Cosmetics. Callie insisted, I agreed and Ryan caved. You can imagine the conversation that ensued that we didn't come all this way to shop in a place we can visit in Annapolis.:)
No doubt the highlight of our day was walking several times down Bourbon Street. Camille wondered after 5 minutes if we had seen enough of it yet. Casey was bewildered at why we would want to see this stuff. His face was priceless. The rest of us.......COULD'T TEAR OUR EYES AWAY!! It was daylight once and then early evening and it was hysterical. We stopped at many of the street entertainers and of course bought a BIG ASS BEER. The kids soaked it all up. Well rounded children I tell ya!
Bourbon St. is what being RV-schooled is all about. Hoping they took with them some observations and conversations that will guide them through life's journey!! I saw some glimmer in my children that will serve them well as they get older. BUT, CONNOR liked it way tooooooo much.
We ended our day with dinner at The Praline Connection on Frenchman Street. Po'Boys, jambalaya AND alligator sausage were almost enjoyed by all.
We Ubered back to our "house," which apparently my children have never done either, as that was fascinating as well. HA
En route to a dude ranch outside of San Antonio, TX. Longest day of driving yet.....
**blog note to all......If it appears I am including more detail than you would like to read.....my first priority is using this blog as a travel journal for our memories that will be printed out upon our return......I'm just happy you get to share in the adventure.
