It's not often you will find me waxing lyrical about shopping, but the whole purpose of this particular blog entry is to tell you about a useful little town called Otaki which is just full of branded outlet shops.
As you may remember, we had become enthused about Icebreaker clothing while we were in the South Island. We nearly splashed the cash again in Wellington when we found a 20% off sale at one store, but I'd discovered that there was an outlet shop just north of the capital so we kept our powder dry.
It was about a 40-minute drive north of Wellington to Otaki and we were amazed to find that the whole place seemed to be packed with outlet stores. As well as Icebreaker, there were loads of others such as Billabong, Ripcurl, H&M, Bendon, Pumpkin Patch etc etc etc. It was a Sunday and there was scarcely a parking spot to be found in the main street.
We didn't browse the other shops, but headed into Icebreaker with steely determination. As well as the usual big savings on the end-of-range gear, there was a special offer - an extra10% off if you bought two items, 20% off if you bought three, and 30% for purchasing four or more.
It was a shame the progression didn't continue a little further as we ended up a good hour later with a haul of six!
