So, Sydney here I come. The hostel I stay in is pretty nice, the best thing though is the breakfast; there is standing somebody all morning long and baking pancakes, for free! So after a god start of the day I was ready to head for the city-boost. The first days here I went around in the city a bit, walked and walked a lot, and have within two days seen everything worth seeing. I went into St Mary's Cathedral, a modern church and listened to the choir for a while, then walked on into the city through Hyde Park and all the way along the inner-city streets to Darling Harbour, where the city markets are located in a huge building full of only tables after tables with all sorts of items for sale. Then I took the metro to Kings Cross where I went food shopping for the next days. The weather is really hot, more humid actually, and we are all waiting for the big crack and thunderstorms to loosen it up a bit. But I went in anyway early through the Domain Park with all the fanatic "I need to get exercise before 8 hours at the office"-runners pumping past me all the time, to the Art Gallery Museum of New South Wales and got "enlightened" by all the creativity. (Amazing how some ugly paintings with just a bit pencil-touch can get on a wall somewhere like that??) Well, actually it was nice most of it, paintings of the nature around in Australia and NZ, and very beautiful. I continued to the Royal Botanic Gardens, a huge area quite close to my hostel with very stunning nature; plants, trees, flowers, waterholes etc. It is all really cared for, and while walking around on small walking paths, you can't really imagine that you are standing pretty much in the heart of Sydney city. The gardens reaches all the way down to the harbour, from where there is only a short walk to the Operahouse of Sydney. This wonderful building (have to mention: made by a Danish architect) is not famous for nothing. It is absolutely beautiful made, and sometimes I even got a photo without Japanese tourist everywhere on it. They are like ants; masses, always in bigger groups, carrying around on a camera and communicating in their own strange way, that's why one always notices them! I walked around the whole harbour to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, from where you get pretty good views over the city and the operahouse. I walked through The Rocks on the way back to the Harbour, the older part of the city with small streets and a lot of history. From the harbour I headed out on a cruise boat to see the whole harbour, it was great!! I got out at Darling Harbour and walked all the way back to the hostel. It started to rain in the evening, and then finally the thunder and lightening came along as well, roaring over the city the whole night. So today is a day to stay inside and watch a movie, and so I did. A day off from all this travelling and impressions is good too, even though my plan was to go to Bondi Beach to relax and chill out there, but without sun the point has gone a bit from that idea:) Tomorrow I have booked myself on a day tour out to the Blue Mountains, can't wait to see it all (in nice weather please!)!!
Well, who forgot to inform me about daylight saving time changing exactly today??? I MISSED MY TOUR- I was up one hour too late! Unbelievable, or:) I had just the worst night since I came, was placed in a room with guys who were so rude and loud and partying with music the whole night through. I woke up all the time and I was so pissed of in the end that I was really close to throw their Ipod+Speakers straight out of the window - Then they got the point. But they kept on laughing and messing around. I went to complain in the morning to the staff, but they could only offer me to move room - again - for tonight. But better than there, hopefully I can get some sleep then tonight. Thats the most exhausting thing about travelling - one never gets good sleep because you have to deal with 8 other people in the same room very often. But usually people are kind and thoughtful in the night, and sometimes I am so tired that I can sleep no matter what. But since it was raining and I had "day oof" without doing anything yesterday,I woke up constantly. The only good thing that happened is that I get a tour tomorrow instead, and leave with the bus for Coofs Harbour tomorrow night, again a whole nights bus ride. And hopefully the weather gets better tomorrow, its not so fancy to make a nice daytour in bad weather,so maybe I was even lucky if the weather is nice tomorrow:)
Always look on the bright side of life!!!!!!
