I'm afraid that i'm going to cheat again and copy Al's email that says what we've been doing...it just saves so much time!!!.....
"Currently in Queenstown, its really beautifull, as is much of the south
island, but this place really is great... however you need a lot of money to
enjoy yourself properly here, which is a luxury we unfortuantely dont have!
Lots to do in the way of Bungey Jumps (charlie did the biggest one here,
420ft or something rediculous, i unfortunately do not have enough money...
to much caving and white water rafting on the north island!
After we left Dunedin we travelledsouth through the Catlins area, which was
erally nice, reminded me of the West counrty.... Cornwall and North Devon!
Camped in a place called Purikanui Bay... was beautifull, see photos! On
the way we stopped to see Mclean Falls, we thought we had seen enough
waterfalls, but took a look anyway.... wow it was definately the best so
far, the first falls dropped about 60 foot, then there were lote of smaller
ones flowwing underneath, it really was very picturesque! (im trying to use
other adjectives other than awesome and cool.... its not working very well!)
Also stopped off at Slope Point which is the most Southerly POint of the
South Island nothing amazing but worth a look! Another thing we did see was
a Yellow Penguin reserve beach, we got there just at the right time to see
them all coming out of the sea after feeding, it was very cool, they are the
rarest penguins in the world so felt good to finally see more than just one
of them!
After this we carried on down to Invercargill... which is a whole heap of
nothing, ended up staying in a horrible cheap hotel and got out of there as
quickly as possible, although we did venture down to Bluff and got a great
lookout from Bluff hill over invercargill.
After a hasty exit we left very early on tuesday morning to come up to Te
Anau which is east of Fjiordland, really beautifull place,. Charlie wanted
to try and get some kayaking in on the Milford sound but places were booked
for a few days so we went for a walk around Lake Te Anau.... WOW! the 2nd
largest lake in NZ and although the wind was a bit chilly it was the only
sunny day of the week, and it really look spectaular. Since then its
basically been raining... as it has since we arrived on the south lsland, we
workled out that we have had about one 24 hr period with no rain at all
other than that its been spits and spots of sun.... rather in NZ than UK i
guess.
Like i said in Queenstown, heading to Wanaka tomorrow which is meant to be
more beautiful than here!!"
And this is the follow up....
"Back in Christchurch just for last night, going back up to Nelsoin today as
we have to get the ferry back across to North Island on friday. Weather has
perked up and we are off to Oz a wek on Saturday and i cant wait!!!
Wanaka was beautifull although the sun was shining the morning we woke, the
drive up to Franz Joseph wasnt too good and decided to rain agian! Charlie
took a tour on the ice and they got to walk over the glacier, the biggest
one in nZ, Angela and i went for a hike up to a look out point to have a
look, it was great absolutely huge!! see photos! They walk was really cool
too, walked through heavy NZ rainforest.
Spent a night in Hokitika then drove through Arthurs Pass yesterdat back to
Christchurch, went out last night and nursing a wee hangover, bnut all is
good. Arthurs Pass was amazing, its th road from the west coast through the
Apls to the east cost, soe stunning scenery, see photos"
And easy as that my journal is up to date!!! Cut and Paste is such a good invention!!! I promise i'll try and write the next one my self though....
PS. Al didn't mention Christchurch Idol, a karaoka bar we went to last night...so much fun...see pics... and also Abi's exhibition is great, that are also some pics of that not to be missed!!!
