Good Bye Vietnam
And that was Vietnam. I found some great new places in Sapa, Hoi An and Phu Quoc. I don't think I could ever get bored of Ha Long Bay and I met heaps of friendly people along the way. I don't think HCMC was my favourite, it's more westernised than the North (and more expensive too and there are a few more million bikes to content with! I can leave you with one last fact, in Hanoi they placed a order for a million motorbikes with the Chinese. After a year a lot of them had broken and so they only buy Honda's now. I think I will be hearing the sounds of beeping horns for weeks.
Saigon International Terminal has to be the most inflated prices I have ever seen in a airport too. You would expect to pay a premium, but a bowl of Pho Bo cost $8 USD when you can get it for less than $1.5 USD on the street. I also got very excited when we ordered from the Illy Espresso bar too. My thimble of ice coffee was far too overpriced again though, and I may think I could do a better job at home!
Two hours later we had touched down in Singapore, time to restore order, replace bikes for cars, and to make haste around the city on the MRT (Mass Rapid Transport) or tubes to those in the UK. Not to be confused with the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) in Hong Kong though although the design of both looks suspiciously similar.
On sitting down for dinner we had wondered what we had got ourselves in for. We found a Moroccan place, in a centre opposite our hotel. A can of ginger beer cost me £4 before tax and the service charge, and my stuffed aubergine were also some astronomical value. I wouldn't even dream of having a beer, that was somewhere in the region of £8 for small bottle of tiger.
