Woke at 9:00 and got our showers and got ready for the day. Jude and Catherine prepared the infamous full Fried Breakfast for us, complete with fried tomatoes, fried mashed potatoes, mushrooms, eggs, sausage, blood pudding, bacon, and fried bread. Jude also encouraged a slice of toast with orange marmalade to round things off the Yorkshire way. We managed to wobble back to our rooms after all that amazing meal and got our things packed up. Jude stuck her head in my room to ask if I had enough room in my case and I said that I'd manage. She then called Andy & I into the lounge where we were presented with goodie bags full of all kinds of things for us to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee from the states. We luckily had bought Andy his little rucksack, so we put our goodies in there and loaded everything into John & Jude's and Catherine's cars to head off to Ripon to meet up with our cousins, Jude's siblings.
We parked in the town centre and found a place to buy a few souvenirs, took a look around Fat Face and then Jude bought flowers for her mom that they'd take up later since we weren't able to go visit since there was an outbreak of illness at the home where Margery is living and no visitors were permitted that day. We also did a bit of shopping before we headed off to Fountains Abbey. There we met up with our cousin Gill and her husband Stuart that we haven't seen in 8 years! We all walked around Studley Royal, went up on the hill to the overlook at Anne Boelyn's seat where Andy had quite the photo taken. We then walked down through the ruins of the abbey that was founded in 1132 and was destroyed by King Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monestaries. We took loads of pictures and headed back to the carpark before driving into town to
Drakes for proper fish and chips. When we arrived, our cousin Geoff and his wife Jane were waiting outside and soon our cousin Andy Fieldhouse arrived. We went into Drakes and were directed upstairs where a large table was set up with Union Jack decor for us. We all had fish and chips with tea and I had mine with mushy peas. A few group pictures were taken and we pinched (stole) the Union Jack flags that were the centerpieces on the table.
We rode with Gill and Stu to Jane and Geoff's new home in Thirsk that they're fixing up. The home is 150 years old, but is rather spacious. Afterwards we went to Andy & Claire's cute little cottage for a drink. Andy has the picture of Andy and my first visit to the UK on his wall in the living room, the same on that I have in my living room! Next we
went to Gill & Stu's. John & Jude came with us and Gill fixed us a Baileys to drink and sat talking for a bit before J & J had to head back to Lichfield. We talked a bit longer with Stu before he went to bed since he gets up really early for work and then we got ready for bed ourselves. Gill gave each of us small gifts and something to take home for our folks. Catherine & I had shared a bed in the guestroom and Andy slept on a cot in the dining room. Catherine and I had "girl talk" til wee hrs in the am and finally managed to get some rest.
