New Jersey Transit System
Having not heard whether Bertha was ready yet or not we made some phonecalls and ended up going over to see Santos at the garage. This was a mission in itself, we left our bags in storage at the motel and sat to wait for the bus to take us to Penn station where we could get the train to Journal Square again. We waited over an hour for the bus after running round trying to get change (you are expected to know how much the bus is and to have exact change for it before you get on!) from some really unhelpful people. We didnt know how long we'd have to wait as the bus stop has no timetable or even a sign saying what bus stops at it!! Bloody Americans..again you are expected to live there and know all there is to know about where everything is and how it works grrr!! Anyway it eventually turned up and by the time we got to Journal Square it was about 3pm and we walked to Santos's to arrive at nearly 4. Once there we learned that the part he was waiting for still hadnt turned up so we tried looking for somewhere to stay the night, this proved fruitless and Santos said we could stay at the garage as we couldnt sleep in Bertha as she was 10ft in the air on the wheel ramp! We got the mattresses out of her though and slept in the office after Santos brought in some 'pastillos' for everyone to eat (his garage is family run so there were several members there at the time) they were really tasty pastry snacks filled with spiced chicken, yum!
