8th January
Plaza de Armas
A somewhat confusing but uneventful day really. We got up around 11 and since there was still no sign of Alex we once again spent most of the day sorting computer stuff, this is what happens when you have 2 months with no internet!! Whilst we were doing this Jamie and Alex's roomate Augustin came back from somewhere, grabbed all his stuff in 2 or 3 huge suitcases and walked out the door. He came back a couple of minutes later to drop off his keys as it turned out that he was moving out. More weird is that from conversations later in the day it turns out that neither Alex or Jamie knew he was moving out!! Anyway this meant that for our last night in the flat we got our own room and a proper bed. We moved all our stuff into our new room and put the blow up mattress away and decided we should go out for a walk as we had so far done absolutely nothing. We walked over to Plaza de Armas where we discovered a hive of activity. In one corner there was a singer of somewhat dubious talent giving a concert where as on the other side of the square there was a stand up comedian (in spanish so we don't if he was actually funny of course) and a magician both performing. We stood watching the Magician for about half an hour until his show was over and we decided to walk down to the park and check out the Ice cream shop. We walked down through the main park where there was another gathering of people, I reckon it was a protest but mae thinks it was a meeting of pregnant women... Eventually we arrived at the famous ice cream shop we had seen during our tour and although it did have some tempting flavours we decided that at £2 per scoop it was a bit pricey so we thought to try one of the slightly cheaper shops in a less touristy area another day. Walking back towards Plaza de Armas we came across a very odd musical group playing on the side of the street with bongos, guitars, stress balls (the ones that rattle) and even a didjeridoo!! We then picked up a hot chocolate and were walking back to the Plaza de Armas when Mae suddenly got abducted by a clown!! Since Mae hates clowns she was even less impressed by this turn of events than I was!! The Plaza now contained a mime and another comedian performing but we decided not to watch them and head back instead. For the rest of the evening we read and looked on couch surfing for another place to stay before going to bed.
