London Bridge.
We left the Grand Canyon at around 11am and started our journey towards Las Vegas. However we couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit London bridge which the americans bought from the city of London in 1968 for $2.5 million and shipped back here! It is now the second most visited attraction in Arizona after the Grand Canyon. The bridge itself spans a canal which connects Lake Havasu to the Colorado river and is set in it's own little London themed area complete with Gates, a fountain and a couple of pubs. (which were closed when we arrived at 6.30, very unrealistic!!!!). Although it seems weird to us that the Americans would buy what is to us just an normal bridge, presumably where the story of them really wanting tower bridge comes from, it is so different from the bridges over here that to them it probably seems quite impressive After looking around for a little while we then continued on to Vegas where after a quick inspection as we crossed into California and two rest stops which turned out not to exist we eventually settled down at a Wal-mart for the night. But not before being treated to another awesome thunder storm which seemed to be happening all around us even though we managed not to get rained on. Once again the sky was turned green and red in places and we saw some huge forks of lightning coming down lighting up the scenery all around us. As we reached Vegas I noticed that the sky here is permanently light and gave the impression of a perpetual sunset shining from behind a mountain which blocked our view of the city. Once we could see the city we could see why this was as it is just one vast neon light filling the basin between the mountains that surround it! The 'Strip' is noticeable even from a distance as its lights rise up into the sky, both due to the size and height of the casinos and because they have huge spotlights pointing upwards! We were already looking forward to exploring this vibrant city in the days to come!
