We left for the Mekong Delta and arrived at 11.30. We met our tour guide and caught our boat to the house where we had lunch where we ate prawns, a first for me! We arrived in Saigon at about 5.30 and after getting to our hotel and having the best croissants I have had outside of France. We went to the Cu Chi tunnels (1 and an half hours away). The Cu Chi tunnels were supply lines used in the American/Vietnam war. I could only manage 30 out of 100 metres of tunnels because it was so cramped. The bomb holes and methods of capture are also worth a look. Back in Saigon I had another croissant and went for a sightseeing walk ...

I spent the morning in the bar playing pool, A waste on a desert island but I wasnt feeling great and the weather wasnt great either. We left Whale Island after lunch and after a game of beach volleyball. And headed back to Nha Trang for an overnight train to Saigon.....Happy New Year! Although the conga through the train at midnight was amusing.

Getting up at 7.30 for breakfast was hard but we had to get a bus and then a short boat ride over to Whale Island. The scenery on the way was amazing, lond sandy duned beaches with breakers one side, on the other side lagoons, used for fishing by the locals. Arriving at midday the weather wasnt good ( it rained heavily during lunch) but it was still a beautiful tropical island all the same! We left Hoi An at 10 and drove to Danang station, where the train to Nha Trang left at midday. Luckily the air con started when we left the station because it was stifling. The 10 hours passed playing cards, reading and eating. Before we knew it we were at the hotel and heading to the Sailing Club at 11 to eat not knowing it was a nightclub.
