7 hours in a bus started the day and by the 3 we had arrived in Siem Riep. After breaking a hammock in a rest place on the way. We went to Dragon Soup for lunch/dinner I had to wait 90 minutes for my food, all hte while having to endure Sophies sarcy comments, but my day soon improved with the help of a few beers with Jon and James in the evening.
We left the hotel at 5 to see the sunrise over Ankor Wat behind the lake. It was amazing to see the complex come into life with so few people around. Next we went round the 'Tomb Raider' temple (used in the film) it was great cos it had been taken over by trees and plants. Ankor Thom followed which was impressive but we did end up losing the tour guide. After lunch we went inside Ankor Wat (an ancient wonder of the world) and it was incredible. It was like a maze inside and in the middle of it all were the dreaded steps to the highest point. The steps were so sketchy I got up but could not get down. I have never been so scared in all my life. But with someone else in the same position we plucked up the courage. I was shaking like a leaf but I eventually made it to the bottom. Back in Siem Riep we went to Temple Bar for dinner which also had a local dance thing on at the same time which was cool! In the restaurant my earring came out because it was infected, the most painful thing ever! At the Ankor Wat bar I met some Ozzies who had seen me walk down the steps...how embarrassing!
The land mine museam we visited in the morning was very informative of the major problem in Cambodia and the dedication of one man to try and change it. The tuk-tuk ride there and back was a little bit up and down to say the least! After lunch James and I played pool before dinner. I might stop mentioning pool now because it has become quite a regular occurence!!
