WOW! The Inca trail was absolutely amazing!
We can honestly say that it was the hardest walk we have ever done - our legs are still sore and our shoulders are aching from carrying our backpacks, but man it was worth it!
The porters were absolutely astounding - they must have been carrying atleast 20kg each on their backs and they were running up the bloody mountains! Made us feel shamefully weak. The food that these guys cooked was also amazing - they managed to make us Pizza one night with only a frying pan and a gas stove for tools! They also served us hot drinks in bed every morning - very posh!
We have met yet another international bunch of new friends - Our guides Jose and Julio from Peru, Sigrid and Karin from Sweden, Matthias from Germany, Maried and Padrig from Ireland, Andrea and Sara from New York, Mik (age 67) and Jackie (65) from Canada and Kate and Sarah from England!
They were all really nice, and we all went out for Karins birthday when we got back to Cusco. We treated ourselves to a slap up meal in a posh restaurant and then topped it off by partying in to the wee hours at Mamma Africa, a local club - we staggered home at 3.45am singing the Grease melody at the top of our voices! It was a fab night, but my we paid for it the next day!
We spent our last night of the trek in Aguas Calientes, where we made full use of the hot springs and the spectacular 4 for 1 drink offers!!!! (can you believe it?!) The views here were pretty spectacular and we got some great pics on the vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo (think that`s how you spell it?!)
We have finally found a wonderous place to eat in South America! It`s called Jack`s cafe and serves proper English breakfasts along with good coffee and a genius bright green mint and citrus frappe! Delicious!? An excellent hangover cure - let Auntie Jean know!
Anyway, we will finish by saying that if you ever get the chance, you must do the Inca Trail! You will not regret it! (although those who don`t enjoy walking or like to shower more than once in 4 days may want to reconsider....)
p.s. remember the best cold shower in the world, the feeling of warmth, the cusquena beer, the starlight... amaze
